1st dozen chicken eggs sold!

We sold our 1st dozen chickens eggs. So exciting! We were asking $3.00 for the dozen, but the lady we sell our eggs to insisted on giving $3.50/dozen for both the chicken and the duck eggs. No complaints here! The chickens are finally starting to pay for some of their feed.

Our 1st chicken egg!

10/23/2009

I was out in the coop today when I saw one of our Buff Orpingtons (Buffy) sitting in one of the nesting boxes. I didn't think much of it at first. However I did get a picture of her sitting in the box. Then when she finally stood up I saw the 1st egg! It was as exciting as getting presents Christmas morning! It took 6 months, but we are now getting beautiful brown eggs.

State 4-H fair

The boys showed some of their birds at the State 4-H show on Saturday. They had taken General, our Red Star roo, who received a Best of Breed (Mixed). Our OEGB, Colonel was a little young to be shown and Buffy the Buff Orpinton got an Excellent.
2 ducks were shown. Clay the youngest Fawn and White Runner received an Excellent. Coco the khaki/runner mix received a very good.
All in all is was a good day and a great experience for the boys. I think they had fun and learned a lot!

The boys have been raising ducks and guineas for a year now. Chickens since April. So far we've had a lot of fun with them. They have had some success at selling their eggs. Still waiting for the chickens to start laying. Could be any day now. One of these days we will get the FRESH EGGS sign outside. The boys have been involved with 4-H over the past year. They have really enjoyed this and are looking forward to the new year. They showed their birds at the county fair and really did well. One of our ducks, Coco, even took Best Of Show!

The State 4-H show is this weekend, so we will see how they do.
